Why join Markham School of Dance?

Dance Journey

When choosing a dance school, it’s important to look beyond the fun of costumes and performances. Dance is more than just steps—it’s a powerful tool for building confidence, focus, resilience, and long-term growth.

At our studio, we believe in setting our students up for success both inside and outside the studio. That’s why we offer skills progression cards through Little Dance Stars™ and Dance FUNdations™ for all classes and formal dance exams through the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Acrobatics, for competitive and ballet students.

Here’s why these programs make a big difference in your child’s dance journey:

  1. More Than Just Choreography—A Pathway for Growth

Exams and skills cards create a sense of purpose in every class. Students aren’t just learning routines; they’re developing foundational skills and movement qualities that prepare them for long-term success. Each level is carefully structured to build upon the last, helping dancers stay motivated and continually improve. Also parents and students can see the progress and understand their dance journey.

  1. Recognition and Achievement

Whether it’s earning a sticker on their skills card, getting the completion button or receiving a certificate from the BATD, students love seeing their progress recognized. These tangible achievements boost confidence and make every milestone feel meaningful and celebrated. Plus it is fun to collect all their

  1. Teaching and Leadership Opportunities

As dancers move through our dance program, they also have the chance to join our Leadership and Teacher Training Programs. By the time they finish high school, students can graduate with a BATD Teaching Certification—a credential that not only looks fantastic on university applications but also creates part-time teaching or summer camp opportunities while in post-secondary education.

  1. Skills That Go Beyond the Studio

Through exam preparation and goal tracking, students learn important life skills like perseverance, time management, responsibility, and how to perform in an exam setting. These are qualities that will support them in academics, careers, and everyday life—not just on stage.

  1. A Supportive, Goal-Oriented Community

Dance exams and skill tracking help foster a positive studio environment. Students support each other, celebrate together, and stay focused on their dance journey. It’s a community built on encouragement and they are excited to see what is next and move through the levels.

Why It Matters

Dance exams and progression systems give students the opportunity to grow with purpose. From their first class in Little Dance Stars™ to earning their teachers certification, our dancers follow a guided path that builds confidence, skill, and passion.
